Fundraising & Service Projects
Many of our service events have been successful over the years. Since we are a local sorority and do not have any single philanthropy, we have enjoyed being able to support a variety of organizations and causes in the past.
If you have a service project that you think we should do, please do not hesitate to contact us! We would love to see what we can do!

Fall and Spring 2016
Balikbayan Boxes
This year we decided to do something a little bigger than we have done recently. We learned about a small island in the Philippines called Camiguin. Balikbayan translated into English means "return- home" .One of our sisters has a connection to a teacher at the Camiguin national high school and they are always in need of donations. Throughout the year we have collected enough items to send at least 5 boxes (weighing around 200lbs a piece) to the people who need them! Most items include clothes, school supplies, household items, food, and toiletries. We are still in the process of fundraising to send the boxes out because they cost $80 a piece to send. Below are pictures received from previous boxes sent by friends.
Boo At the Zoo!
Just like the year before, we participated in Racine's Boo at the Zoo. This provides a safe environment for children to trick or treat in. The weather this year did not agree with the event; it was cold and pouring down rain all day. But we stuck with it! If there were still children there, we would still be passing out candy! Almost every sister who attended wore a costume, but the children absolutely loved Amanda Rico's handmade costume of Joy from Inside Out.
The picture is not from the event, sadly we do not have any pictures because it was raining so hard that day. |

Relay For Life
So many lives are touched by cancer and these events are pivotal in the race for the cure! Relay for Life is fun and very rewarding. Carthage College raised over $73,000 this year. The event runs all night until the sun comes up, starting with a special ceremony for survivors and caretakers and people told heartwarming stories of their experiences with cancer. There are many activities within Relay. This year featured a bouncey house, 4am BINGO, and a Kareoke Competition. It was catered by Chipotle, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Culvers.
Racine Zoo Egg-Stravanganza
Just like the Boo at the Zoo event, the Racine Zoo also creates a safe and fun environment for children to have an Easter egg hunt! Not only that, but there are tables of crafts fro them and animals to see. The event is a lot of fun for the kids and the volunteers! One of our actives, Emily Bednar, got to play as the Easter bunny and take pictures with the kids and help them find Easter eggs.

Halloween Fun!
Everyone loves to feel like they did when they were a kid and Sigma Alpha Chi had great opportunities to do so helping out at events such as Boo at the Zoo (which is held at Racine Zoo) and Trunk or Treat (held at Barth Storage in Kenosha on 75th).
We did our best to dress up to show our spirit at these events! The kids seem to think it was neat at least or maybe that was just the candy talking!

Anti-Bullying Awareness Week! November 10 - November 14
One of our sisters really wanted to try something new this year and this project came about! We as an organization realize that bullying comes in many different forms and that many people tend to ignore that fact. This week was a great success and with us having so many great interactions with the students on campus!
All week we tabled in front of the stairs of the Caf and Einsteins having people sign our Pledge to be Bully Free. At the end of the week we hosted a dance and speaking event to talk about the importance of what we are doing, and what we all need to do to make a difference. We raised money throughout the week selling bracelets we designed for the Bully Project.

April 11: Relay for Life
Join Sigma Alpha Chi in the fight against cancer! Almost all of us have been touched by cancer in some way, so we've decided to make a difference by walking and raising money in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life event.
At the event, our team will camp out overnight and take turns walking around the track to raise money and awareness to help the American Cancer Society in the world's largest fight for more birthdays.
Our team is doing our part to make sure that cancer never steals another year of anyone's life. Please join our team or make a donation, because saving lives from cancer starts one team, one participant, and one dollar at a time.

Fall 2013
November 1: Power of a Purse Fundraising Event
On November 1, 2013, Sigma Alpha Chi was given the opportunity to help out the Kenosha Women's Fund with their annual Power of a Purse Fundraising Event. Our sisters guided guests, hosted the silent auction, and aided in both set-up and take-down in addition to raising $75 and donating $120 to the organization. Not only were we able to bond as a sisterhood, but we felt great knowing that our efforts were supporting such a wonderful local organization! From the Kenosha Women's Fund site: "In 2013, the Women's Fund awarded over $7,700 in grants for programs that created opportunities for women and children in the Kenosha area. Not-for profit organizations receiving grants included: Women and Children's Horizon, the Girls Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast, the Kenosha Literacy Council and the Sharing Center."

April 12: Relay for Life
In Spring 2013, a wonderful service and fundraising opportunity presented itself to Sigma Alpha Chi, and we were quick enough to fully take advantage of it. Relay for Life, which is hosted every year here at Carthage College, happened on April 12th at 6pm to April 13th at 6am. We decided that it would be great to get a sorority team together and so the Sigma Alpha Chi team was born!
The event was a huge success! As a team we raised over $1,800! This made our team one of the top 6 teams at this Relay for Life! Thank you so much for your continued support of the sisterhood and particularly this event. It was a blessing to be a part of and we all enjoyed it so much.
Below are some pictures from the event. The pictures were taken at our campsite whenever people took a rest from walking and needed something to do. Many of us also participated in events throughout the night. In the end, our team had almost everyone present for the entire duration of Relay.
